First of all i have to admit that the abalone in this picture could have been cleaned better. Ideally you should really scrub it until it becomes white, but i was worried about making them toughen up, which could happen. So it's up to you to strike a balance. Either way you won't die! These fresh abalones were purchased at the wet market for HK$10 each. So healthy and affordable! Abalone is supposedly really low in fat and high in omega 3, and helps fluid retention and circulation.
Wash the abalone well, they are SO DIRTY! Use a scrub brush or old toothbrush if you don't have a scrub brush for food, and scrub the shell, exposed inner shell, and edges of the abalone. The dark bits won't come off without a scrub!
Put on a plate and steam the abalone for 8-10 minutes.
Throw away the steaming liquid, cool the abalone, discard the shell and cover with Lee Kum Kee drunken chicken marinade and a handful of goji berries in a small container for at least 4 hours. I have tried marinating them overnight (around 10 hours) and they were delicious, but you should not marinate longer than overnight or it may become too salty. Throw out the marinade after you achieve your desired taste.
